INTRODUCING MY DARK & MOODY OFFICE!
I cannot believe how fast this day came, and I truly can’t believe that I actually finished this space in 6 weeks, considering that I literally decided to join this challenge at about 9pm the night before the Spring 2018 One Room Challenge ™ began! I have to say that this was an incredibly rewarding experience and I absolutely could not have done it without my sponsors who all individually stepped up to the plate each in different ways. I also never would have finished this dark & moody office in as little time without the deadline of this challenge, so thank you from the bottom of my heart to Linda from Calling it Home and House Beautiful for creating this challenge.
Another huge thank you and hats off goes to my sponsors: Shelby Fowler at Sherwin Williams who so graciously provided the paint as well as inspiration for my room, Helen & Rachel at The Stencil Library for the amazing stencil that helped me create that stunning pattern on my wall, Hannah at Murals Wallpaper for the stunningly gorgeous custom printed wallpaper mural and to Angel for coordinating & Jesus at New Generation Wall Coverings for demonstrating true mastery in hanging the gorgeous mural. Special thanks to my client and dear friend, Mary Lou Byrne who donated some of the beautiful pieces you see in this space. Jazz hands Ms. Mary!!!
LETS SLOW IT DOWN FOR A MINUTE
Before we get to the photos, I want to share a bit of my heart for a moment. This is literally the first room I have ever designed 100% without anyone else in mind but myself since I became a designer. There is something so incredibly rewarding and enlightening about doing that. I am fascinated to step back and see what I created when tapping in to my own heart. Not only is this room a reflection of who I am as a person & designer, but it is my own gift of love to myself, {{because it’s like I always say…..beautiful interiors are a form of self care. }}
I am a passionate and deep feeling person which is reflected in the colors in this room, the oversized florals represent the power of my femininity in both a strong and soft way, the cowhide rug represents my quirkiness and the serenity of that corner where my desk sits reflects the desire of my heart for peace and serenity in my life on a daily basis.
If you look closely, you will see other little things that are special to me and reflect what makes me me. My past life as a ballerina, world travels, love of design, DIY & vintage decor are all represented. My prized possession in this room is my collection of vintage House Beautiful magazines from as early as 1956 through 1975. I cherish these and pull inspiration from them often.
The office I have been working out of sits in an open loft with no way to block out the noises of barking dogs, just outside of my bedroom and it is filled with all of the least creative stuff ever. I mean, corporate binders, unopened mail & file cabinets filled with statements & financials really isn’t conducive to creativity…..knowwhatimean?
LET’S REMINISCE ABOUT THE BEFORE
Unfortunately, I didn’t think to take photos of my step-daughter’s room before dismantling it to move her in to her new room,… because I didn’t know I was doing this challenge!!! And because I’m a knucklehead. I truly am sad that I didn’t have proper photos of her room the way it was because it was super cute! I’ve popped a few that I could find from instagram that are horrible quality, but it gives you an idea.
I literally cannot believe that I get to create in this room every day from here forward. So….without further adieu…..drumroll please!!
MY NEW DARK & MOODY OFFICE!

Well, there you have it. My blood sweat and tears,….{{tears of joy that is}}, went in to this room and even Buster is super excited for his new spot to hang out in….provided he isn’t Mr. Barky pants as per usual. 😉 As I settle in, I’m sure that things will continue to change, and frankly, I will have to bring in some files and actual work things, so that shelving unit won’t stay exactly like that because….you know….. {{ real life }}. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect office chair, but for now this vintage Knoll will have to do, but for now, my new dark & moody office definitely has my heart. ❤️
If you love this room and can’t get enough of it, don’t fret! There will be more blog posts about how I made this room happen, including a GET THE LOOK post so you can re-create a similar space for yourself without having to do all of the legwork! In the meantime here is the list of the actual products I used here.

P.S. Now that I’m finished with this project I’m opening up my calendar again for virtual consulting! There are limited spaces available and you would be amazed at what we can accomplish in 1 hour. Don’t sit in your overwhelm or make decisions you aren’t sure of. That is exactly how you waste money, and in redecorating & remodeling, mistakes are costly. More often than not, I save my clients more money than they paid for my consult. I mean,….that equates to a free consultation, yo! Either way, it’s always a positive return on investment and I can work with you anywhere in the world. CLICK HERE to learn more!
