SOMETIMES….REAL LIFE.

This week in my office makeover project for Spring 2018 One Room Challenge ™ not a whole heck of a lot got done.  I’m just gonna be honest with you.   So many things came up that I just couldn’t get to all of the things I needed to get to like priming and painting the whole room, which means selecting paint colors first…and such. ?

I did just choose one of the paint colors for the office and I share that process of attempting to do that without the actual wall mural in hand in this video.  I also show you how my thought process works to narrow down my choices and ultimately choose my paint colors.

BEHIND THE SCENES | The process for choosing paint colors

? GO BEHIND THE SCENES WHILE I CHOOSE PAINT COLORS FOR MY OFFICE. ?Have you ever wondered how designer's choose paint colors for their projects? Well watch over my shoulder {{literally}} as I choose the paint colors from Sherwin-Williams for my One Room Challenge office makeover. Watch how I overcome the challenge of not having the wallpaper yet {that the colors are dependend on} and see how my brain works, as well as how I worked through obstacles to come to a decision.To read all about WEEK 4 of this challenge, click on the link in the first comment to head to my blog.

I mean, you might be disappointed that I don’t have these fantastic photos to show you, but frankly, I think this is way more exciting than the designers who started planning their “6 week one room challenge” months ago, so that on week 1 they were posting images of the whole space ripped up and on week 2 new cabinets already in.   No folks.  You won’t get that here.  You are getting bona fide, found out about it the day before scramble and take the first 3 weeks to plan, design, find sponsors & order stuff, so that in the last week you get to watch me sweat & sprint to the finish line with 80% of the work to be done in the last 5 days!!!  {{gulping, palms sweating as I write this}}

That’s what I’m here for!  To entertain.  {{Will the reveal consist of a half done room or will Marilynn finish in time?? Stay tuned to see if she makes it to the finish line! }} ????

To see the project from start to finish check out week 1 ,  week 2 & week 3.

SO WHAT HAVE YOU DONE, MARILYNN?

Okay okay, some things got done.

  • I cleared out the whole room
  • Organized & donated all of the stuff in there. {did you see the video I did on how to get every cent of deduction out of charity giving?}
  • I took everything off the walls
  • Spackled & patched
  • Bought the Zinsser primer
  • Brought all of the tools & things in to the room to get started on priming!
  • I chose Sherwin Williams Cascades SW 7623 for the walls that don’t have wallpaper (and the one that will get the gold stencil)
  • Next I’m deciding between two other colors for the doors ( Rainstorm SW 6230 and Seaworthy SW 7620)

P.S. Did you know that Sherwin Williams has a tool where you can visualize their paint colors in your room?  You just upload a photo and then try the colors.  Their tool is called Color Snap and I share it along with other resources for free!!  click HERE for a FREE DOWNLOAD!

THE SUPPLIES

Because I will be painting my walls of the office a dark color, I have selected a gray primer, which always helps the deep colors look more rich.  I use this Zinsser primer because it literally sticks to any surface which I need in this case, because I’ll be using it on the walls and the doors & trim which have glossy finishes.

You also get to see all of the tools I’ll be using.

  • giant drop cloths
  • paint pan liners
  • small paint pans for cutting in
  • Purdy 2.5″ brush for cutting in
  • Small nap rollers for rolling over brush marks when cutting in.
  • Large rollers with extension pole (saves time over having to use a ladder.

SOME PRETTIES

Along the way, I have picked up some fun accessories and thought I would give you at least one pretty visual in today’s post, lol.  The brass peacock and panther are from Target’s new Opalhouse collection that I’m absolutely swooning over and the rest is from either Homegoods in store or TJ Maxx online.

WHAT’S IN STORE FOR THE OFFICE THIS WEEK?

Here is my task list:

  • Prime all of the walls trim & doors
  • Paint the 2 non wallpaper walls & door
  • Polish & lacquer the vintage brass sputnik light & maybe put it up.

Let’s hope that this coming week is less eventful than last week was, but I’m hoping to bang out quite a lot this weekend while I’ve got the hubs to help.  😉

Once again, thank you to Linda from Calling it Home and House Beautiful for creating this challenge and be sure to check out the  featured designer’s and fellow guest participants for some fantastic inspiration, and you may just learn a thing or two for your own project!  I mean, that’s what we are all here for right?
