43 FAMILY MEMBERS A POLISH FLAG AND ONE GIANT VACATION RENTAL ON THE BEACH

What could be better than that? In 2018, 43 of my family members all came together for a family reunion celebrating the 60th anniversary of my grandparents escaping communist Poland for the freedom of America. They came with little to nothing, with 3 kids in tow, one on the way and made their way as immigrants with hard work, perseverance and a deep faith. They went on to have a total of 7 kids, who produced the Motley crew you see above. While my Babcia and Dziadek have been gone from us for many years, we continue to carry their spirit in to our daily lives and celebrate our Polish heritage and traditions with great pride. My personal favorite is nalisniki and pierogi! Yum!

I can attest that finding a home that could accommodate this many people comfortably and affordably was no small feat, but we found one, the Aphrodite, in the outer banks of North Carolina in Kitty Hawk, otherwise known as OBX.

A HOME WITH 24 MASTER BEDROOMS, 3 LEVELS AND 2 KITCHENS. AND DID I MENTION THE POOL WITH A LAZY RIVER?

I have yet to find any other area where you can find an abundance of homes this large, that can sleep up to 50 or 60 people. This seems to be a culture and investment opportunity reserved for OBX and clearly it is a lucrative business model, because every year a whole new crop of these homes pop up. We were lucky enough to find this home in it’s premier season, and we were only the fourth or fifth group to stay in it. Feast your eyes below.

It was a beautiful home, although after experiencing so many Airbnb rentals that make every effort to make it feel like home, this felt a bit basic and stale and because it was brand new there were lots of kinks to work out.

I always tell my BnB hosting students to do 2-3 trial runs where you allow friends or family to stay at your brand new rental and give you feedback about what could be improved and identify the kinks that need to be worked out.
