A Boho Teen Bedroom - free downloadable!

The boho teen bedroom is finally complete!  Earlier this year, we decided to play musical rooms and move everything around and we are finally settling in to all of our new spaces.  Logen turned 14 in October and started high school and it was time to move her out of her little girl room and in to a more grown up room with it’s own attached bathroom.  If you remember, we rented a beach bungalow in Capistrano Beach close to my husband’s work, and this is where the great dosey-do began.  We moved the furniture from the guest room in to the bedroom there, and decided that the old guest room would be Logen’s new bedroom, and her old bedroom would become my new office.  You can see photos of her old bedroom HERE.

She wanted a space that felt grown up, sort of like her own living room where she could hang out with friends on her bed like a sofa or on the floor, true teen boho style.  So, we pushed the bed against the wall and filled it with lots and lots and lots of pillows.   I put a moroccan style coffee table that is light enough to move around as she needs, plus some floor pillows.   Target’s Opalhouse collection was a big source of new items, mixed with a lot of pre-existing furnishings and decor.  In fact keep scrolling because at the bottom I have a free download for you with links to recreate this room, all from Target!

We started out using the bedding that was already on her bed, and I pulled some pillows from my inventory, but the issue I kept coming across was that I only had 2 of each pillow and it wasn’t right for the scale of the bed set sideways like this.  The 3 orange pillows in the back didn’t match.  So….a shopping I went.

This was a 2nd iteration after picking up a few pieces, but still not right.  And those 3 orange pillows were from my bed, and I wanted them back, lol!

Around the time that I was working on my new office I stumbled upon Target’s Opalhouse line, and I basically bought everything that I thought might work, then played,…..and played…..and played, until I landed here.  Of course, I returned anything I didn’t use in here or somewhere else in the house, which is one of the bonuses of shopping at Target.  I buy online, and make quick and easy purchases in the store.  Her favorite color is yellow, so I chose to go with a lighter pallet with black and white, using yellow as the main accent color.  We painted the wall with Boat Anchor by Dunn Edwards.

You know I’m a big thrifting geek, so you will spy lots of items that are vintage, as well as a signed Hamilton poster from when we took her to see Hamilton at the Pantages for her 14th birthday.  I literally was in tears the entire show.  Literally one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.  {sorry for getting side tracked there, lol!}

So, without further adieu….

I hope you are inspired to create a room that reflects your teen and helps them feel pride in their personal space.  I feel so strongly about helping people create interiors that help them feel connected, reflected and inspired each and every time they are in there.  Especially at this age, nurturing that sense of self and pride in their own personal taste is so powerful.  I loved every minute of doing this for her.

Below is a mood board ready for you to download so you can get to recreating this look for your teen!  Be sure to do some thrifting and find some one of a kind pieces to make this unique to your space.
